Your
Color Expectations
Color Management at Island Display, Inc.
starts with understanding what our customers
expect relative to a particular job. While
it may sound simple, color management is
a complex process. In the absence of standardized
industry guidelines, our internal rules
are as follows:
Match
the original
If the image printed was scanned by Island
Display, Inc., we will match the original
unless instructed otherwise. Should you
prefer a variation from the original (e.g.,
a little darker, less contrast, match to
a separate hard copy, etc.), please let
us know up front. If you have provided
us with a file that was scanned elsewhere,
please include a proof.
Match
the PMS
We prefer that you indicate your PMS expectations
to us by marking up your hard copy. We
will use a visual matching system internally
to adjust your file so that the color comes
as close to the PMS specified as the gamut
of the media will allow. Otherwise, we
will open your file and check the PMS selection
on-screen, and again make any necessary
adjustments to match the PMS color. We
have used this method for several years,
and are confident that it provides the
best possible result. As a standard, we
reference the “Coated” version
of the PMS chart commonly used in vector
software.
Further
Definition
of Color
Expectations
If you have anything else that defines
your color expectations, please tell us
at the beginning of the job, and provide
a sample. This could be work previously
done that will be viewed with the new work.
It might be product packaging, other printed
versions, logos, etc. Whatever it is, let
us know and we will do our best!
How
We Manage
Color
Color Management is a hot topic in all
digital arenas. At Island Display, Inc.,
we stay “state of the art” using
Kodak, Onyx, ColorBlind, Praxisoft and
other premier digital color management
systems. Our equipment is calibrated daily,
and ICC color profiles are constantly monitored
and adjusted based upon both test patches
and real job results.
Proofing
For each job, we provide a small (8” x
10”) version of the image on the
correct media, for your approval. The job
is then printed with the assurance that
it meets your expectations.
